Soraya Clavijo, Premio Nacional de Flamenco por Bulerías Carmen Amaya (Córdoba 2004). Her journey began in Jerez de la Frontera in 1977, and at the age of thirteen she took her first flamenco steps with Ana Maria López. Belén Fernández planted within her the love of classical ballet.

At the age of nineteen she moved to Sevilla, where she began her artistic career in various flamenco clubs while she continued to train under the tutelage of greats the likes of Eva la Yerbabuena, Javier Latorre and Joaquín Grilo, among others.

In 2001 Soraya´s artistic explosion was met by the critical acclaim of the Flamenco Festival of Mont de Marsan as well as her classification as candidate for the Bulerías Premio Carmen Amaya 2001 award in the Concurso Nacional de Córdoba. In 2002, this success would take her to perform in the Festival de la Unión with celebrated pianist, Diego ¨El Churry¨ Amador.

During these years Soraya often frequented Japan, where she gave flamenco dance courses and took part in a number of various shows and performances.

Educated in Jerez´s school of flamenco, she dances flamenco with a style that is difficult to compare to others, though it has many influences. ¨I´m not like anyone else. I´m not a radical purist. All that is well done is well done , and I´m not closed to anything as long as it is professional and done carefully.¨
